Gift of Caring

It may seem like it’s not worth mentioning since the act of giving is already an act of caring.
But the gift of caring runs so much deeper.
When we say “Gift of Caring,” we mean gifts that will affect your loved ones lives in a positive way. In the long run we all grow older, but can grow older in different ways. Traditionally, we gravitate towards the convenient gifts, such as gift cards, movie tickets, socks, sweaters, candy.  Although that Santa jars filled with chocolates is a cute idea the though behind always gifting the same old thing is fleeing. We are growing older, even at this very minute. It’s inevitable that we progress to old age, where everything that’s been done in our 20’s and 30’s will catch up to us. As we get even older, we are at an increasing risk for health problems. That’s why the gift of caring is necessary for both the young and old.
The Gift of Organic
When you care about someone, you care about their health, physical wellness and mental wellness—anything to increase their quality of life. What is ingested, what is worn and your environment goes under scrutiny and contributes heavily to health. It’s important to decrease the toxicity exposure from harsh chemicals and pesticides. It’s not just a fad. There are countless studies that have been done. Typically when we hear “organic” we think of dairy and produce; however, textiles is equally important, especially since we spend a chunk of our lives in bed every night. To show we care, giving the gift of a long-term impact is an excellent way of saying “you matter.” - If your loved one is in need of a new pillow, give them organic latex for comfort and better support. - If your loved one has issues with allergy in their old dusty comforters, give them down alternative, which is much more hypoallergenic and microbial resistant. Also the weather is getting colder. - If your loved one has a bed that’s not as comfortable as it can be, throw in latex mattress topper—which is a more natural equivalent alternative to memory foam. - 100% Organic bed sheets are an easier go to if you do not know whether or not they need new blankets or pillows. Here at Well Living shop in Team work with Organic Textiles LLC, we want to stress the holiday season is a perfect time to practice the gift of giving (assuming you’re not the Scrooge before the three ghost visits). Keep a look out for our upcoming holiday sales.

How to Wash the Wool Comforter

Needs some tips on how to properly wash your wool comforter? Well you’ve come to the right place; here you will find insightful tips on how to properly wash for your comforter.
First off, if you just bought your wool comforter there is no need to wash it, unless it’s your preference. Our Wool Comforters are chemical-free and are ready for immediate use. It is important to remember that wool is made of natural fiber; this fiber regulates temperature and maintains its shape for a very long time. For this reason, when washing your Wool Comforter you must be extra careful. It is recommended to wash your Wool comforter every two to six months.
HOW TO WASH: When washing your comforter avoid any loaders that would slowly flip the product. Use a TOP LOADER machines. Manually set your machine to SOAK and to MEDIUM/ HIGH-SPEED SPINNING. Pay attention while washing and stop in the soak and rinse and skip any slow speed spins.

2. Soak – Fill your machine with warm water and add your biodegradable detergent or wool wash. Place your Wool Comforter and slowly push it down to let the water soak in.
3. Skip all Slow spinning cycles- set your machine to medium/ high speed. This will allow the spinning to take out the water out.
4. DO NOT USE DRY MACHINE – hand-dry in the sun or warm place
*Getting Rid of Small SpotsIf the reason you are washing your comforter is because you accidentally stained a spot, use hydrogen peroxide.
Apply hydrogen peroxide to the stain area- let it dry in between application, you will notice the stain will slowly start to lift and disappear as it gets dry. If the stain is not coming off keep applying more hydrogen peroxide until the affected areas starts to disappear. If the stain is too big use your sink and just soak the affected area with your wool wash or biodegradable detergent. After, you can either hand-dry or press the water out with a towel.

What is Kapok?

Kapok refers to a tropical tree and the fiber from its fruit, it’s also known as silk cotton or java cotton. The fibers are harvested through the seedpod of the fruit. This seedpod produces the fluffy kapok fiber material with hundreds of seeds. A fully grown kapok tree can easily yield up to 15 kilograms of fiber each year. During harvesting, the unopened ripe pods are either knocked down or cut off the tree. The fruits are then opened: hundreds of seeds and fibers are removed by hand, segregating them from the fiber.
Kapok is a very distinguishable fiber. It is described as being softer and silkier than traditional cotton would be. Unlike cotton and other fibers kapok has a bouncy aspect. This makes it ideal for pillows as it can bounce back to its original state. Although occasional fluffing may still be required sporadically.
The waxy coating on the kapok fiber helps give it the silky feel. This also benefits it’s amazing moisture resistant qualities. Meaning if you feel like you get hot while you sleep this might be the pillow for you. It also reduced and almost eliminates clumping in the pillow, as it can easily adjust to the proper shape do to this waterproof like waxy coating.

What is Talalay and Dunlop Latex?

Here at Well Living Shop, we’ve done extensive research on the best organic, all natural products for our customer to have a comfortable night’s sleep.
Our research boils down to organic and natural latex.
It’s breathable with natural temperature control, yet still hypoallergenic; it’s durable and very supportive for our bodily structural needs; and best of all it is much more chemically safe than other products with polyurethane or memory foam.
Latex is a milky liquid that comes naturally from a rubber tree. It turns into latex by two main methods: Talalay and Dunlop.
Which is better depends on individual preferences—there are pros and cons to both depending on needs.
DunlopTalalay
How was it founded?
In 1929 (UK), A research scientist working at Dunlop Tyre and Rubber Company accidently discovered that mixing together and heating soap, gelling agents, and liquid latex would create a latex foam.
Because of this, this method is time-tested for reliability.
In 2935 (Russia), Ansil, Leon, and Joseph Talalay reinvented the latex rubber products.
This new engineering has created a more consistent texture through improvement and evolution of the older method.
Engineering
After the liquid from the rubber tree has been extracted, it is whipped and frothed, placed into a mold, and baked steam.
This is a simpler and less expensive method to manufacture.
Talalay uses a similar formula for Dunlop, except it also includes a vacuum and deep freeze immediate after results in a more consistent cell structure after baked.
This method uses fewer raw materials for manufacturing.
Texture
Dunlop can feel more “dense” due to the firmer bottom layer.
During the baking process, sediments in the mixture “settle” towards the bottom, making it more firm towards the bottom.
Talalay has a more consistent texture of latex and may feel plushy when compressed.
Talalay latex can also elongate more due to a better tensile strength.
Air Circulation
Dense foam tends to have less air circulation within latex—however the conveniently larger pinholes balance air circulation.Talalay tends to be breathable, making it an excellent choice for those who sleeps “hot” in combination with the smaller pinholes.
Bouncy or Springy
Customers have reported Dunlop is more bouncy and buoyant since it doesn’t feel like they are “sinking.”
They reported it feels like they are “floating” on air.
Customers reported Talalay is springy, easily bounces back when folded or compressed.
They also reported Talalay latex to be lighter and softer to sink into.
Support
The lower firmer portion of Dunlop latex creates a higher support factor.Comparing Talalay with the same density and size of the Dunlop, Talalay does tend to be much softer and springier. However, our firmer Talalay can also provide the support when needed.
Sleeping Positions
Customers have said they prefer Dunlop latex as it provides more higher support on pressure points.
Some of our customers state that they prefer this pillow and mattress especially if they are a side sleeper. As it’s easier to switch positions without “sinking” in throughout the night. Again, this all depends on preference.
This tends to be the most preferred comfort layer of a pillow.
It’s consistently soft texture will feel plushy and completely conform to the head and neck, making it perfect for back sleepers.
The firmness variations can offer different support levels for the ideal comfort.

How to help your children perform better in school

How to help your children perform better in school
With all the kids back in school and summer quickly coming to its final days we have found a few things that may help keep them focused during class. Many studies have been done and researchers have found that there is a strong connection with sleep, learning and children’s performance at school. A well-rested kid is more likely to perform better at school than a kid who is deprived from sleep. During a study a group of kids from 9-14 years old were asked to get rest and a good night sleep, while the other group was deprived sleep for a single night. The results stated the obvious, children who are well rested and get a good night sleep will perform better at school. It was found that sleep deprivation results in change in the brain activity during simple task or attention. Adolescents have shown that the areas of the brain that help them stay attentive have to work twice as hard in order to perform better during a memory task. In order for your children’s memory to perform better it is recommended that they get their good night sleep. So yes parents if you want to make your children more agile and quick learners make sure they are getting a good breakfast, dinner and a well- rested good night sleep.
Explicit memory is supported by sleep because sleep impacts on learning depend on the degree and duration of sleep deprivation and the type of material being learned. Sleep comes a long way and it’s as important as good nutrition and exercise because during sleep the body repackages neurotransmitters, chemicals the enable brain cells to communicate. Your children need to be obtaining their vitamin ZZZ because not only will they perform better at school, but it can help them fight obesity, and have a lower risk of becoming overweight and develop diabetes.
The goal for your children is to get them a good night sleep and increase their performance in school. Although all of those factors are extremely important for a parent, there’s something else that needs to be considered. The chemicals used to make your children’s pillows, sheets, covers and mattresses (softeners, deodorants, flame retardants, fluffing agents, anti-static chemicals, surfactants, formaldehyde, VOC etc… and the list goes on). Your children’s bed may appear to be normal, but their bed is certainly not at their best. There is short-term and long-term effects these chemical can be doing to the children. The reason this can happen is because skin absorbs chemicals, which can result in the onset of disease and chronic conditions. Especially when they are at their growth stage, non-organic bedding can be coated with cancer-causing chemicals.
Parents you must be wondering, how can you help your children sleep in a more pure and clean bedroom? A good start would be getting them an organic pillow since most of the night our children are breathing right next to their pillow. There are more options available in order to achieve an organic bed and make you and your children’s bed safer atWelllivingshop. You can find organic pillows, organic mattressesorganic sheets and organic comforters all natural and Eco-friendly bedding that doesn’t contain any genetically engineered particles. Organic bedding is the best choice for your family’s sleep and the environment because it’s biodegradable and chemical free.

The need to knows of GOTS & GOLS Certifications

One of our retailers recently asked a very important question: Are completely different certifications issued among the worldwide Organic Latex normal (GOLS) and the international Organic Textile standard (GOTS)?
BE AWARE – Clients got the opportunity to recollect that GOLS and GOTS seals without anyone else don't recognize FINISHED PRODUCT CERTIFICATIONS and INDIVIDUAL part CERTIFICATION for a material.
DON’T BE FOOLED – One maker of a favored material, Similar to a sleeping cushion, could show both of the seals beside a completed item once only one of the many parts and sub-gatherings have truly been affirmed natural.
DID YOU KNOW -That the higher than seals, one from every of those USDA-approved third-party organic content verifies, will have totally different meanings and levels of certification?
So what are the variations, and the way are you able to distinguish between them?
GOLS and GOTS give 2 Completely different organic certifications:
1. An Organic certification for singular parts of an item, That is typically issued to cultivators or yarn producers, to not the manufacturer, and
2. A Complete-Item organic certification.
KNOW WHAT Inquiries to Raise – First, raise to check a replica of a certification, and confirm that it's within the manufacturer’s name which the date is current. Typically, you'll notice that certifications from growers just show that a crop or element went through a third-party audit for organic certification, Which the grower’s certificates aren't TRANSFERABLE.
Certificates should be within the name of the producer. Every merchant claiming the GOLS or GOTS seal should be audited to assure shoppers that they need to buy the claimed organic element which is has been utilized in their real product.
MISLEADING – Inserting the cell next to a picture of a finished product like a mattress provides the impression that the final or finished product has been audited and has met the demanding needs of a complete CERTIFIED ORGANIC PRODUCT.
For example, the GOLS Certification offers 2 Completely different labels-grading designations:
1.A Manufacturer will label a product “Made with forty-six of Organic.” They're claiming that if their product has a minimum of seventieth certified organic latex and that they have submitted their product to a freelance third-party audit to prove their claims, they're entitled to say a “Made With” designation.
2.A Manufacturer will label their finished product “Certified Organic” if the merchandise has ninety fifth or more certified organic latex and different certified organic material. Additionally, the producer should undergo an outsider review to demonstrate their cases.
Many everyday shoppers don't understand to seem for this labeling or to raise Page two, and that they don't perceive what it suggests that. Sadly, GOLS and GOTS don't have completely different logos to tell apart between finished-product certification and alternative certifications.
GOLS and GOTS use a similar brand for all of their certifications.
This creates confusion within the marketplace, with shoppers assuming they're buying one thing which will not be what they think they're buying.
Here are some samples of how this might confuse the common consumer:
1.Organic mattress toppers composed of a 100% “natural” latex core with a GOTS-certified organic cotton cowl could hold a GOTS part certification within the manufacturer’s name for the material solely, however it might be extremely unlikely. The mattress as an entire wouldn't be certified organic. Merely showing the material manufacturer’s GOTScertification on a web site doesn't convince shoppers that they really purchased the fabric or that it's been used in the merchandise. Third-party audits mean everything!
2.If Organic pillowsare marketed as GOLS-certified it ought to hold the finished-product certification, instead of simply part/process certifications in their name.
3.Such as, a mattress that's composed of each certified organic latex and memory foam wouldn't hold the finished-product certification, as a result of the memory foam doesn't meet the standards for non toxic materials.
All of Those situations represent a time once every of those makers may slap same certification seals on their websites and the everyday shopper would have a tough time Recognizing the variations Between them.

Choosing the Perfect Topper

Which is the best topper?
We get it its not easy to choose the perfect sleeping surface. With so many choices out in the market it can be hard to find a topper that's right for you. Here are a few key points to remember when purchasing your next mattress topper. For starters, keep in mind there are several types of mattress toppers out there such as pocket spring, coil, memory foam, and latex. Each have different pricing ranges and vary in support and firmness.
Let's go ahead and get to the nitty gritty of what YOU need to focus on. The ideal sleeping surface varies depending on each person. Firmness is very important! Since we are all made differently what works for one person may not work for another keep this in mind. Choosing the ideal firmness for your body consists of creating the ideal support for the spine according to body type.
Is it too Firm?
If you are sleeping on a surface that is too firm you might notice you do a lot of tossing and turning through the night. This uncomfortable feeling is due to excessive pressure on heavier parts in the body, such as shoulders and hips. This extensive pressure over time will cause both your shoulder and hips to merge towards each other, resulting in an abnormal curvature in the spine.
Is it too Soft?
Unlike a firm surface laying on a bed you can sink into may not be a good idea. If you notice your're sinking into your sleeping surface a little too much it may be a little too soft. Sleeping on an excessively soft surface will cause your body to sink into a hammock like position into your mattress. Without the proper support your spine will also curve simulating a hammock.
Just Right!!
Sleeping on the perfect surface will give you the right support on smaller body part and slightly less on the heavier ones. While laying on your side your body should maintain its natural shape. Your sleeping surface should hug the curves of your body ensuring proper alignment of the spine. The spine should maintain a straight arraignment while sleeping on your side and a natural curve while on your back. As we all have different body types keep in mind people with a rectangular/straights body shape may prefer a firm surface. While a softer surface works best for those with broad shoulders and hips.

Washable Pillows

Washable Pillows
Basic wool, cotton and kapok pillows cannot be washed as they will shrink and coagulate in a normal wash cycle. This phenomenon is known as felting. Wool being a little more delicate begins to felt a lot easier, due to the hot water and hot drying temperatures, making the pillows unusable.
Many attempts have been made to create a washable wool, cotton, and kapok pillow.  A process has been created by our manufacture which significantly reduces the felting effect, allowing your pillow to be washed. However, wait... Don't go throw the pillow in washer machine just yet. These pillows must be washed with extra care. Here are some guidelines to follow if your pillow is labeled as washable.
Please do not attempt to wash it if your pillow is not washable.
1. Use a large washer, typically 60 lb. machine for a standard pillow and 80 lb. machine for a king pillow. This will allows enough water to flow in and out of pillow while preventing the fibers from sticking to each other. Ensure that the selected wash cycle is on delicate cold wash.
2. Follow up with a large low to no heat temperature drying cycle. It is important to use a large dryer to allow the pillow to tumble freely in the dryer. Air need to circulate freely through out the entire pillow. We do not recommend drying more than one pillow at a time or running a mix load. You will need to repeat the drying cycle 4 times. You will notice your pillow is dry after the first cycle but this is only through the outside. Internally the fibers have not fully dried.

Easier cleaning alternatives:
1. Wash the pillowcases frequently and not the pillows. Use dual pillowcases if necessary.
2. Spot clean wool, cotton, kapok pillows.
3. Dry clean.

Washing Wool Pillows

Basic wool pillows are not washable as they will shrink and coagulate in a normal wash cycle. This phenomenon is known as wool felting. Hot water and Hot drying will accelerate this process making the pillows unusable. Many attempts have been made to make wool pillows washable. Most significantly, many of the organic wool or eco wool makers use a process to reduce the felting effect making them washable. However, wait.. do not throw the pillow in wash machine and watch TV. These Organic pillows have to washed with extra care. Here are some guidelines to follow if the pillow is labeled as washable. Do not attempt to wash it if the label is for dry cleaning care.
1. Use large washer typically 60 lb. machine for a standard pillow and 80 lb. machine for a king pillow. This allows enough water to flow in and out of pillow while preventing fibers to stick to each other. Ensure that selected wash cycle is delicate cold wash in a front loading machine.
2. Line dry pillow for 4 hours and then follow up with low temperature drying in large dryer. It is important to use a large dryer to avoid pillow staying in same position for long period. Air must circulate in the dryer and not hit the same area of the pillow. Ideally do not attempt to dry more than two pillows at a time, and do not run mixed loads.

Easier alternatives:
1. Wash the pillowcases frequently and not the pillows. Use dual pillowcases if necessary.
2. Spot clean wool pillows.
3. Dry clean.
4. If you frequently wash pillows, consider alternative filling such as down alternative fiber or similar synthetic fiber. If you like having natural fiber filling, consider organic cotton or kapok. These choices are available at www.welllivingshop.com and similar organic and Ecofriendly products sellers.
Wool fibers are still one of best choices because of its natural content, temperature regulation characteristics and resilience. However, they need extra care. They cannot be left in a home washer with other cloths. While manufacturers are still working on making the wool pillows robust for home washing, this improvement or development is still in progress. Until then it is prudent to wash wool pillows with extra care.
With some TLC, wool pillows last a long time. You sleep well and healthy without the concern about the chemicals in the big box store pillow. They are naturally flame retardant and usually, additional chemical fire retardants are not required in a wool pillow. Organic and natural products community simply love these pillows.
